Your guide

"Hi, I'm Rindu. I was born and raised at the foot of Rinjani. This mountain has been part of my life since I was a child, and I still spend my days taking people up to see how beautiful it is."

Rindu handles every trip himself — answering the WhatsApp messages, picking the crew, and walking the route with you. Small groups, porters paid properly, and everything carried up comes back down again.

Alex and friends at the summit
Myself and my two friends had an experience of a lifetime. Rindu is a good man — he helped from the first message through onboarding, tickets, transport and the climb. From start until the port, the accommodation and support were excellent. Thank you, Rindu.

Maëlys and Flo at the Torean finish gate
Our experience with Rindu was exceptional from beginning to end. He organised our whole stay in Lombok — transport, accommodation and our 3-day, 2-night Rinjani trek. The trek was challenging but incredible, and he was always attentive and focused on our safety. The highlight was being welcomed into Rindu’s home to share a meal with his family. We couldn’t have asked for a better guide.

After the trek

There is more to Lombok than the mountain.

Rinjani is one of the reasons people come to Lombok, but the island has plenty of other stories worth exploring. From quiet beaches to spots most visitors never find, there is a lot still waiting.

Not sure where to go once you are back down? Message Rindu and we will help you pick the best places on Lombok.

Before you book

The questions everyone sends first.

How fit do I need to be?

Rinjani is hard but not technical — no ropes, no climbing skills. If you can walk 6–8 hours a day with a light daypack, you can do it. The summit push is the crux: three hours on loose scree in the dark. Plenty of people who've never trekked before make it, and plenty of very fit people turn back. Take it slow and listen to your guide.

When is the mountain open?

Rinjani National Park usually opens around April and closes around January for the rainy season, and the park authority can close it at short notice for weather or volcanic activity. June to September is the driest and most reliable window. Message Rindu with your dates and he'll tell you what the mountain is doing.

What's the difference between a private trek and an open trip?

A private trek is your group only — your pace, your schedule. An open trip joins you with other trekkers on a set date so you pay the 3–20 person rate even if you're travelling solo. Same guides, same food, same route.

Where do you pick me up?

Anywhere on Lombok — Senggigi, Kuta, Mataram, the airport, or the Gili harbour at Bangsal. Transfers both ways are in the price. Tell Rindu where you're staying when you book.

How do I pay, and can I cancel?

Rindu confirms the price, dates and deposit with you directly on WhatsApp before anything is paid. Ask him about payment methods and the cancellation policy in the same message — he'll send both in writing.

Can I leave my luggage somewhere?

Yes. Your main bag stays safely at the Sembalun homestay while you trek and is waiting for you at the end. If you'd rather have it carried on the mountain, a personal porter is $25 per day.
